Spring/Summer '24 "Bourgeoisie, Mufflers, and Oil,"
Trashy Clothing's SS24 collection, titled "Bourgeoisie, Mufflers, and Oil," delves into the themes of imperialism and corruption while exploring the status quo of the bourgeoisie. Inspired by the satirical works of Palestinian cartoonist Naji Al Ali, the collection scrutinizes themes of greed, resistance, betrayal, and American terrorism. Notable pieces include the Maryoma Hood dress, Barrel skirt, and Shabak top, each contributing to the deconstruction of the capitalist facade surrounding the American dream. The SS24 pieces draw inspiration from oil rigs and barrels, influencing shapes and patterns, serving as symbols representing the currency of killing in an imperial empire. Additionally, the collection includes advertisements, which serve to distract and capitalize- business as usual.
